This set of ten mélodies composed by Joseph Szulc is an underrepresented work in the classical vocal repertoire. We will be performing them on stage with three singers, a pianist and a painter. Each piece serves as an individual impression that follows small glimpses of light that change and blur into different color schemes. This project is our ode to Paris.
what we've accomplished:
By presenting this set of songs by Joseph Szulc, we help expose an underrepresented composer and sing his seldom performed repertoire.
1.
Through the merging of painting, photography and song, we open the channels of collaboration between the different art forms.
2.
We are drawing inspiration from our recent trips to Paris for this project. Each piece of music represents an impression from a street we walked down, a hidden gallery we discovered, a painting we saw, a garden we stumbled upon or an entry way we admired. By combining our personal impressions of Paris to Szulc's impressionistic music, we have created a visual story that highlights different influences from previous centuries.
